ASVI hits London

This April, ASVI held one of its renowned workshops in the UK capital, as part of its International Masters Programme.

Once more ASVI’s ‘professional students’ completed a successful Workshop on the Management and Fundraising strategies of the Non  Profit sector.

At the beginning of April 2010 ASVI’s Master students took upon themselves the journey to the UK’s capital to complete a week long Workshop in the heart of the Charity Capital of Europe.

Scope

ASVI was welcomed by ‘Scope’ – one of Britain’s ‘Giant’ charity organizations, which focuses on achieving equality for disabled people and defending their rights. The first half of the workshop took place in Scope’s prestigious conference centre – followed by a tour of its offices, giving our students a one-off opportunity, not only to see the inside workings of a UK charity, but also to listen to individual experiences of its staff.

Regents College

The second half of the week was spent on the luscious grounds of Regent College, where ASVI’s students were able to live and feel a true British campus experience whilst dedicating themselves to the study of the Arts of Management and Marketing.

Lecturers

The in-depth study of Management Strategies, Fundraising Tools and Techniques as well as the all important Public Speaking Skills, was made possible thanks to the first class interactive mini seminars held throughout the week by highly qualified UK professionals, well known in the industry and practiced in transferring skills.

“A quick note to say how much I enjoyed working with you, the ASVI team and all the ASVI students – I hope that my seminar was useful, especially for those starting out in their career in the voluntary sector. And I had a great time sharing my knowledge! I would be delighted to work with ASVI again. ”
Siân Mexsom – Freelance Fundraising Consultant

“As my session focused very much on understanding and interpretation of language and my knowledge of Italian is very limited I decided late on to do the exercises in both English and Italian. I think this helped to get the messages across in a clearer way and helped me to test the potential of making a universal case, no matter what the language. Despite it being an afternoon session everyone contributed well – they all stayed awake! I very much enjoyed meeting them all and look forward to future collaborations ” Isabel White – Director, Advice2go

Workshop

The week-long intensive workshop covered a wide range of areas. During the first three days, dedicated to Fundraising, students covered basic topics such as the Fundraising Plan right through to more subtle techniques such as those discussed in the best-selling book ‘The Influential Fundraiser’, which is also one of the courses core texts, written by Bernard Ross.

Students

The final part of the Workshop looked at and discussed issues such as Public Speaking, Effective Writing, how to present yourself and communicate persuasively. As ASVI believe in ‘learning by doing’ the students worked hard on presentations, conflict management and public speaking.

Leaving London on the last day, satisfied and brain-fried our students gave us feedback on their exceptional experience:

Samuela Castellotti, PMC, novembre 2009

Tutors
Not only the students enjoyed their stay but also ASVI’s didactic team took the time to appreciate London’s ‘fresh’ air and get in the UK spirit of things.

“ A unique experience, 6 intense days lived to the max alongside some of the most important professionals of the most evolved Third Sector in Europe, the British one. This allowed me to appreciate the social value of Non Profit organizations and the services they provide in their locality…Who else can say they’ve had such a wonderful opportunity?” Tatiana Tamberlani, ASVI Didactics Team

“I was very happy to stay in London with my colleagues. Especially, the social dinner held in Hampstead was one of my best moment. I had a chance to stay with my students, in an informal way, chatting about their personal life and their future. Thank you ASVI for this great experience.” Christian Dama, Didactics Team

The story of ASVI, Third Sector Management, in London, starts in 2006. First with the partnership with ACEVO – then with the constitution of Euclid Network, of which Leader2Leader (Italia) is a Spin-off, and finally, effective training intervention via intensive Workshops.

Third Sector Management Europe works to create the most important platform for managerial career development within the sector in Europe, as well as becoming the most affordable professional recruitment basin available to Third Sector organizations. Aimed in particular at young people and professionals coming from the for profit sector it looks to push their potential in order to provide top quality managers for the sector. This will be done via training, support from professional Networks and encouraging the exchange of best-practices at an international level. In Tina Turner’s words…’Simply the best’!” Marco Crescenzi, President ‘Third Sector Management Europe’
