{"id":37501,"date":"2013-11-14T11:52:08","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T11:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/socialchangeschool.org\/14\/11\/2013\/eu-social-innovation-competition\/"},"modified":"2013-11-14T11:52:08","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T11:52:08","slug":"eu-social-innovation-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/it\/14\/11\/2013\/eu-social-innovation-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Social Innovation competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Marco Zappalorto | 14 Novembre 2013<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asvi.it\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/competition-second-edition31.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-13163\" title=\"competition-second-edition3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asvi.it\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/competition-second-edition31-139x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Last Friday we launched in Milan the second edition of the EU Social Innovation Competition \u2013 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/enterprise\/policies\/innovation\/policy\/social-innovation\/competition\/challenge_en.htm\">The Job Challenge<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Like the previous edition, the European Commission is offering 3 prizes of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u20ac<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">20,000 each<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> to social innovations that have a real impact on helping unemployed people get jobs or creating new opportunities for work by, for instance:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">increasing the number of unemployed people who move into work;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">increasing the earnings of un- or under-employed people;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">increasing the employment of disadvantaged or marginalized groups (e.g. young people, over 50s, people with disabilities, working mothers);<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">increasing the number of people becoming self-employed or starting their own businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Last year 605 entries were received from all over Europe. 30 semi-finalists were invited to a <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/kl\/sets\/72157632995905648\">Social Innovation Academy<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">in Amsterdam to support the development of their ideas. 10 finalists were selected and eventually <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/enterprise\/policies\/innovation\/policy\/social-innovation\/past-editions\/winners_en.htm\">3 winners<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">were awarded by President Barroso on 29 May 2013 in Brussels. You can take a look at the semi-finalists, finalists and winners from the previous edition on the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/socialinnovationcompetition.eu\/\">competition platform<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">This year, the competition was officially launched by Carlo Pettinelli, Director at the EU Commission together with the ten finalists of the previous edition of the competition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The entries will be judged on 3 main criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">degree of innovation <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">assessed\u00a0 in a given context of the proposed idea; of the approach and solution to a socio-economic or environmental issue; of the proposed product, service, process, technology implied by this solution; or of the business, implementation, organization or marketing models underpinning this solution \u2013 innovations can be understood as genuinely new ideas as much as new or improved ways to implement, combine, or adapt to a different context or target group existing solutions;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">potential impact <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">assessed as the potential of the idea to help people move towards work or create new types of work;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a7\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">potential for sustainability and scale <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">assessed as the likeliness that projects can be sustained and have significant, long-lasting and increasing impact and as their capacity to be inspirational for others in Europe \u2013 e.g. to be applied\/transferred\/adapted to another area of the same country, to another or more EU Member State(s), to another issue and to another population category.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Strong mentoring support and numerous networking opportunities<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> will be organized by the European Commission for the semi-finalists and finalists of the competition to support the development of their ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The focus of the competition closely links with the work that Nesta is doing on innovation in jobs and the <span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nesta.org.uk\/library\/documents\/Makingitwork.pdf\">Making it Work<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> report published last year by Nesta.\u00a0 We are really excited about being part of this project and we do believe that it&#8217;s fantastic that the EU Commission is focusing the second edition of the competition once again on new ways of creating to address such a social pain in Europe like lack of employment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Deadline for applications is 11 December 2013 so help promoting this competition to get numerous and ground-breaking entries!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marco Zappalorto | 14 Novembre 2013 Last Friday we launched in Milan the second edition of the EU Social Innovation Competition \u2013 The Job Challenge in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos.
