If you keep dreaming of a different future for you and others, then be courageous!<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you remember when parents used to tell their kids they should \u201cgo work for a bank\u201d or, to the most ambitious ones, to become a manager of an enterprise, with little or no\u00a0social consideration? I remember very well the affectionate perplexities or condescending giggles of those who had made a “safe choice” instead of exploring my own and other people\u2019s “craziness”. Historical paradoxes, those times are over now, and the situation has been reversed: now\u00a0from an employment point of view,\u00a0working in the non-profit is surely safer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Bankers” are increasingly reduced, while there are more and more “for profit” managers in their 50ies throughout the West, “exuberant\u2019” both in their physical and occupational style.<\/p>\n

The alternatives are rather subdued in Europe:\u00a0going to work as waiters in an unliveable and arrogant London<\/strong> or in the cold Berlin surely isn’t a great future\u00a0for youths <\/strong>from\u00a0Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal. About\u00a0\u201cstart-ups\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 I know many\u2026 Allow me to be somewhat\u00a0wary<\/strong>. Gig economy<\/strong>\u00a0is the future, but\u00a0for now its occupational quality is very questionable.<\/strong>\u00a0The average stay of an employee in Google is of 1,1 year, and of 1 year in Amazon (source – Payscale): before presenting themselves as role models, they should maybe question themselves and care more about their brand reputation.<\/p>\n

The end of\u00a0\u201csecure\u201d job<\/strong>\u00a0and the new emerging and unsatisfying forms with no identity, could be met as a tragedy or with regret. However, this could also be an opportunity. But for whom?<\/p>\n

For those lucky people who have an international profile, who are confident in themselves and their future and\u00a0have the\u00a0\u201ccourage to have a dream\u201d<\/strong>. And for those people aged over 40 who still have their childhood dreams alive.<\/p>\n

For all of them,\u00a0this deep crisis<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0suicide of the left<\/strong>\u00a0in the world is an opportunity to start a life full of meaning, without compromises and without \u201cdiscounts to the system\u201d, to go ahead with their heads held high in spite of everything\u00a0and to \u201cdo politics\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0on different and more truthful bases.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in an NGO\u201d <\/strong>(in the non-profit, or \u201cthird sector\u201d or \u201csocial field\u201d) is not just the dream of a person who wants to change the world merely by talking. It is a concrete life project, demanding<\/strong>, often precarious and full of contradictions, but always full of meaning<\/strong> and affirming one\u2019s identity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In relation to the condition of Italy, the Census<\/strong> \u2013 published on the 2nd December 2016 \u2013 mentions the great growth of some NGOs as an example: since 2007,\u00a0Save The Children<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0grew over 428%,\u00a0Emergency<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0123% and\u00a0MSF<\/strong><\/em>\u00a045,9%. These data remind us how, in general, the non-profit sector has been one of the main employment generators in the world in the last 20 years. Over one million paid employees in Italy and an employment percentage that in some European countries (like the Netherlands and Belgium) reaches 13% out of the total, and an\u00a0EU and USA average of about\u00a06-7%<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In one of our recent researches, we also gave \u201cin progress\u201d references on the need of\u00a0professionals in the NGO<\/a>s<\/strong>\u2019\u00a0 and nonprofit market. There are obviously important prerequisites to enter and succeed, a choice that surely cannot be improvised. A choice that today more than ever is also political.<\/p>\n
