Crescenzi"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\">di Marco Crescenzi, Presidente Social Change School<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Fundraising <\/strong>professions today are <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/lavorare-nel-non-profit\/professional-profiles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the most wanted in nonprofit<\/a> <\/strong>and a consistent opportunity for those coming from the \u201c<strong>for-profit<\/strong>\u201d sector. Oddly, the problem is that in this sector <strong>demand exceeds supply<\/strong>: basically, we don\u2019t have enough professionals \u2013 our school has the same problem \u2013 to respond to the request of <strong>NGOs<\/strong>. Talking with Tirso Puig, Head of Social Change School&#8217;s Career Development Service, he indeed confirmed that many partner organizations are looking for interns and junior positions in the Fundraising sector. Fundraisers are sought-after all over the world, in USA and in Europe, as well as in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok. <br \/><strong>Why?<\/strong> Because as public funds are shrinking, fundraisers are the only ones who are able to ensure the financial survival of NGOs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">But what is it? <strong>Fundraising isn\u2019t just about \u201craising funds\u201d<\/strong>: it\u2019s also about creating social investment, high impact partnerships and projects. An instrument of citizenship where you don\u2019t simply ask for participation, but you offer it, co-investing in sensible causes. Therefore, it is a profession that attracts those <strong>coming from communication, marketing and business fields<\/strong> (like many ex managers and consultants), but also people with a background in <strong>humanities<\/strong>, with an educational approach and able to integrate in very social nonprofit realities where words like \u201ctarget\/customer portfolios\/remarketing\u201d and various technicalities aren\u2019t used.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Actually, fundraising is more of<strong> a broad professional family<\/strong> rather than just one single profession, which is also \u201cassembled\u201d into actual professional associations and built with structured <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/it\/master\/master-in-fundraising-management-comunicazione-marketing-campaigning\/\">training courses<\/a><\/strong>, and it mainly includes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Corporate Fundraising<\/strong>: synergetic partnerships <strong>with for-profit companies<\/strong>, specialization for those coming from the for-profit sector and that know its rules, styles and languages, know that it\u2019s best not to present themselves with an unkempt beard and piercings\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Trust Fundraising<\/strong>: is the fundraising with foundations, banks or not, that nowadays are a growing source of funding (think about the prominent role of Cariplo in Italy or \u2013 in relative terms \u2013 the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Legacy Fundraising<\/strong>: fundraising on <strong>testamentary bequests. <\/strong>Until a few years ago in Italy it was mostly an exclusive domain of Catholic Church, but is now significantly increasing with 104 billion euros without heir and therefore potentially available for nonprofits \u2013 expected in 2020 (Source: Fondazione Cariplo). \u201c<em>It requires the ability to listen and to create a relationship of trust, work on territory and community<\/em>\u201d \u2013 these are the words of <strong>Stefano Malfatti<\/strong>, one of the best in the sector, who ironically invites people to \u201cthink about the future\u201d! It surely is an interesting sector for many <strong>lawyers<\/strong> and people with legal training, or psychologists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Events and Campaigns<\/strong>: organizing campaigns is an alternative strategy of action, complementary to projects, one that benefitted from the spreading of social media and ad hoc platforms like change.org, that make the potential impact broad and\/or targeted. For some people, like the historic campaigner of Altromercato\u00a0<strong>Davide Cavazza<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 with whom we have co-written the first Italian Manual of Campaigning in 2006 \u2013 \u201c<em>Campaigns come before fundraising<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Individual Donors<\/strong>: as <strong>Giancarla Pancione<\/strong>, Marketing and Fundraising Director at Save The Children Italia, always underlines, people are still the most widespread way to raise funds in Italy. It is mainly thanks to this \u2013 rather than thanks to the general good management and international network \u2013 that so far Save The Children grew by 428% since 2007 in Italy (source: Censis), but the same goes for Emergency, MSF and others. \u201cGreat donors\u201d are individuals as well, with the American philanthro-capitalism \u2013 with its lights and shadows \u2013 as a main actor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Community Fundraising<\/strong>: it\u2019s the fundraising and partnerships done <strong>with regard to the community<\/strong> as a whole, rather than a specific type of donors. Working with actors on the territory, on specific causes, local development actions. It encourages a more \u201csocial\u201d spirit rather than a \u201cbusiness\u201d one, even if, at the end of the day, you still need to bring home the funds.
