Social Change School supports the international strike in Madrid for Women\u2019s Rights (and human intelligence!)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Board and the staff of the Social Change School support the strike in Madrid and its Manifesto<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cNo aceptamos estar sometidas a peores condiciones laborales, ni cobrar menos que los hombres por el mismo trabajo. Por eso, hoy tambi\u00e9n hacemos huelga laboral. Huelga contra los techos de cristal y la precariedad laboral\u2026\u201d (\u201cWe do not accept being subjected to worst working conditions, nor being paid less than men for the same job. And it\u2019s for this reason that today we are going on a strike. A strike against the glass ceiling and precarious work\u2026<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Maria Sole Raimondi<\/a>, Master FRAME<\/a> Coordinator,\u00a0will be taking part as our delegate by following the protest and reporting to the School.<\/p>\n

Rocio Requena<\/a> and Marco Crescenzi<\/a>, Responsibles for the School, are happy to remember that:<\/p>\n

– Since our foundation 20 years ago, the gender balance<\/strong> in the School has been on average of 60% women and 40% men<\/strong> (not because of a \u201cgender based\u201d policy but because of a \u201ctalent based\u201d one).<\/p>\n

– The decisions on salary conditions have always been connected with seniority and talent, we have never even thought, not even remotely, to apply \u201csalary for gender\u201d conditions.<\/p>\n

The \u201ctop management<\/strong>\u201d of the School is equally divided <\/strong>between men and women, 50%: Rocio and Marco share the same level of responsibility. Management is equally divided. About Middle Management, 3 out of 4 Master Programmes are coordinated by women colleagues.<\/p>\n

Cinzia D\u2019Intino, Head of Didactics, reminds that \u201c70% of SCS\u2019 students are women<\/strong>, and many of them are now managers in the NGOs. We have also happily welcomed students who attended lessons with their babies while breast-feeding. About disadvantaged people, the School in general made its classrooms and didactics as accessible as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The staff thinks that \u201cgender inequality\u201d is intolerable<\/strong> and, from a management point of view, stupid and damaging<\/strong> for any organization. The battle for equal salaries and management is not only feminist or \u201cpolitically correct\u201d but of general interest for humankind\u2019s development and for the labour market, in all its sectors.<\/p>\n

About non-profit sector, a large majority of professionals are women, and equal pay for equal work<\/strong> is a must in the NGOs.<\/p>\n

In the field of international cooperation, NGOs are keener to invest on women as they represent a more reliable and key \u201csocial actor\u201d<\/strong> for the success of projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Foul episodes of abuse committed by male colleagues in positions of power (i.e. texts, emails, undesired advances) in the NGOs, are incredibly low when compared with other sectors, and the position of the School on these cases is of zero tolerance.<\/p>\n

Following, the words of Marco Crescenzi, President of Social Change School<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, the glass ceiling<\/strong> \u2013 women\u2019s access to top management position \u2013 is still a problem in NGOs worldwide, even if less common when compared to the \u201cprofit\u201d sector. In my experience, it doesn\u2019t just depend on discrimination, but it is also related to the \u201cfamiliar weight\u201d and duties women are culturally used to perceive and that in many cases lead them to take a step back in their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

We are heading towards a society that in a few decades will surely see the increase of women\u2019s leadership in all the sectors of our society \u2013 and it is very important to create a more shared responsibility<\/strong>, and an open environment<\/strong> for all our professionals. Not because of \u201cethics\u201d but because we see the best things \u2013 creativity, problem solving, happiness \u2013 coming from diversity, inclusion, participation to decisions and cultural integration<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
