{"id":2594,"date":"2017-12-20T10:20:52","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T10:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/socialchangeschool.org\/2017\/12\/master-hope-lands-in-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies\/"},"modified":"2024-03-18T14:19:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-18T14:19:18","slug":"master-hope-lands-in-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/20\/12\/2017\/master-hope-lands-in-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies\/","title":{"rendered":"Master HOPE arrives in Madrid for the Workshop &#8220;Working in Emergencies&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Between the 15th and the 17th of December, the cycle of workshops on <strong>WORKING IN EMERGENCIES<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/master\/master-in-humanitarian-operations-in-emergencies-managing-projects-people-administration-logistic-in-the-field\/\">Master HOPE \u2013 Master in Humanitarian Operations in Emergencies, Managing Projects, People Administration &amp; Logistic in the Field<\/a> &#8211; Edition June 2017, was held in Madrid, at the Social Change School headquarters, led by <strong>Diego Battistessa<\/strong> (Lecturer and Researcher at the Carlos III University of Madrid) and <strong>Elisa Paz<\/strong> and <strong>Elspeth Chapman<\/strong> (from Plan International Spain). Furthermore, there was also a moment for the fellow\u2019s to meet Humanitarian Actors: <strong>Leok Peters<\/strong>, Director of Human Surge, and <strong>Valeria Vilardo<\/strong> from Plan International Spain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-30479 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/12\/HOPE-1-e1513765397764-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"HOPE 1\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-1-e1513765397764-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-1-e1513765397764-768x486.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-1-e1513765397764.jpg 883w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The first day was dedicated to an initial approach to \u201c<strong>Conflict Management<\/strong>\u201d, with Diego Battistessa, who focused on the cooperative way as a means to face the conflict, highlighting the importance of creative thinking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Aftewards, the students were able to meet two professionals from the Humanitarian Field: Leok Peters, Director of <strong>Human Surge<\/strong>, and Valeria Vilardo from <strong>Plan International Spain<\/strong>. This was a moment dedicated to a more personal contact with those organisations, their values and mission, to have a better understanding of the field. When asked about professional profiles by the students, Loek Peter highlighted the <strong>importance of languages in the humanitarian field<\/strong>, and the constant and current need of Arabic and French speakers. Furthermore, Valeria Vilardo stressed that <strong>to be specialised in a specific skill is the way to enter in the humanitarian and development fields<\/strong>. The meeting with the humanitarian actors was very important for the students to understand a little bit more about the market and requested profiles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The second day was dedicated to \u201c<strong>Introduction to Quality &amp; Accountability \u2013 People Management &amp; Leadership<\/strong>\u201d, with Elisa Paz and Elspeth Chapman from Plan International Spain. A first moment was dedicated to address the current most pressing humanitarian crisis and different concepts of crisis. Then, the lecturers emphasised the importance of <strong>Gender in conflicts<\/strong> and the fellows engaged in the discussion and shared their thoughts on this issue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-30481 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/12\/HOPE-3-e1513765471908-300x159.jpg\" alt=\"HOPE 3\" width=\"300\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-3-e1513765471908-300x159.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-3-e1513765471908-768x408.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/HOPE-3-e1513765471908.jpg 912w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The second part of the day was dedicated to <strong>communication in humanitarian disasters<\/strong> as well as to <strong>stress management in emergencies<\/strong>. Then, the fellows did a role play of a meeting, in which they had to apply the tools and knowledge they had just assessed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On Sunday, after a first moment of <strong>Question &amp; Answers<\/strong> with the lecturers, the first part of the session was dedicated to <strong>career assessment<\/strong>, in which the lecturers shared their own professional experience and were open to answer to questions from the students.
