{"id":2548,"date":"2017-05-24T11:18:22","date_gmt":"2017-05-24T11:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/socialchangeschool.org\/2017\/05\/hope-students-go-to-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies\/"},"modified":"2024-03-18T14:19:51","modified_gmt":"2024-03-18T14:19:51","slug":"hope-students-go-to-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/24\/05\/2017\/hope-students-go-to-madrid-for-the-workshop-working-in-emergencies\/","title":{"rendered":"HOPE students in Madrid for the Workshop &#8220;Working in Emergencies&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>On the 15<sup>th<\/sup> and 16<sup>th<\/sup> of May<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>the students of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/master\/master-in-humanitarian-operations-in-emergencies-managing-projects-people-administration-logistic-in-the-field\/\">HOPE- Master In Humanitarian Operations in Emergencies Managing Projects, People, Administration &amp; Logistic in the field<\/a><\/strong> came to the Social Change School Office in <strong>Madrid<\/strong>, for taking part at the <strong>Workshop \u201cWORKING IN EMERGENCIES\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The first day of Workshop: \u201c<strong>Introduction to Quality &amp; Accountability \u2013 People management &amp; leadership<\/strong>\u201d was led by <strong>Elisa Paz and Elspeth Chapman<\/strong>, from the NGO\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/plan-international.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plan International<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The best tools and practices for dealing with <strong>complex and under pressure situations<\/strong> and for maintaining <strong>focus<\/strong> on objectives and <strong>self-efficacy<\/strong>, have been discusses, with insights into:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>-Preparedness and problem solving in the humanitarian settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>-Stress management and security<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>-Management by objectives and planning <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>-Humanitarian resources and team work in the field\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">During the morning of the second day, the two lecturers brought ahead the discussion on the \u201c<strong>Performance management &amp; effectiveness, personal safety, security &amp; well-being<\/strong>\u201d by putting the theory into practice with an <strong>interactive simulation of an emergency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Finally, the\u00a0second half of the day, was led by <strong>Alejandro Lopez Carresi<\/strong>, Director of<strong> CEDEM &#8211; Center for Disaster and Emergency Management<\/strong>, who focused on the <strong>\u201cLegal Framework-Third Sector &amp; NGOs\u201d<\/strong>. The students had the chance to learn more about the <strong>General framework of humanitarian action <\/strong>and to look into more details at the <strong>political and cultural context and the underlying causes of humanitarian crisis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialchangeschool.org\/en\/faculty\/giulia-pizzuti\/\">Giulia Pizzuti<\/a><\/strong>, the Didactic Coordinator responsible for the Master HOPE, said that: \u201cThis first workshop, organised for HOPE students in Madrid, has been really interesting under many aspects. The students could meet and have contact with <strong>professionals from Spanish NGOs who work in the scope of Humanitarian Emergency Projects at an international level<\/strong>, moreover, they could share with the Social Change School Staff their comments and impressions on the topic discussed.
