#FromtheField: Francesco and his 2 years on the field in Uganda

From the Field: Francesco and his two years experience in Uganda

It’s been almost 2 years since my first mission in Uganda, which I undertook during the internship with Mission Bambini Foundation. The project I was following was aimed to drafting a concept note for the tender announced by Cariplo Foundation in occasion of Milan Expo 2015.

The tools and competences learnt during the Master in Project Management, in particular regarding project management and social business, immediately proved to be decisive. Even before the end of the master, I was offered the possibility to give my contribution in the development of a project on the field, while also carrying out a little research on social business for local organizations.

There are choices that open new roads, rich in possibilities, that are simply unimaginable until you start pursuing them. Therefore, in a crescendo of roles and responsibilities, I am still here in Kampala, after almost 2 years, where I now work as Development Director for an Italian NGO. The position I hold, allows me to combine my previous educational and professional experiences, using project management techniques and tools, strategic planning, project monitoring and writing. I have developed and written projects in different areas (WASH, Livelihoods, Food Security, Environmental Protection, Social Businesses, Education), successfully managing relations with Italian and European donors and partners.

There are routes of which you can foresee the final destination, but the path is not always smooth and clear. The Master was my choice, and the staff of Social Change School and  my colleagues have been my guide and support to reach a goal that previously was only an unreachable dream.
